It is done.

I return from the wilds of Indianapolis. In addition to the standard swag and gaming goodness, I was lucky enough to hook up with some old chums from CMU and Gen Cons past. A good time was had by all.

Heh. Well, I am not sure this year was as full of stories as last year, but there were a few moments I suppose. We advanced to the finals in the NASCRAG tournament, which was good. Stellar as always. We wiped in the first encounter of the RPGA tournament due to ignorance of Eberron, which was bad. It still boggles our mind to no end that the tournament run by the Roleplaying Gaming Association in fact features no roleplaying whatsoever and hasn't for years. ;)

Let's see... Mindy sold two pieces at the Art Show, which was pretty cool in and of itself. It's neat to walk around and see a friend's name on the walls next to the Elmores of the illustrating world.

Something you might be interested in Sarah was the preponderance of bellydancing items, clothing, and dvds at this year's show, which we found somewhat surprising. Judging from the amount of people in bellydancing dress I think there must have been a show somewhere but I will be damned if I could find it in the schedule.

More on Nascrag... this year I swore that if they did any more time travelling I would scream. Thankfully they didn't. This year they actually tried something new, which turned out to be a whole lot of fun. Yes, this year's Nascrag event was basically "Honey, I Shrunk the PCs.: :D We destroyed this event with some exceptional roleplaying from all involved, but our standout was probably Angie in her first Gen Con appearance. For those who don't know, Angie is a friend of mine who is a professionally trained singer. So of course, we gave her the bard character. Well, this proved to be wise. When her character busted out the tunage to a cadre of mousefolk that had killed her cat (don't ask), the whole gaming room literally went silent, and when we were done she received a standing ovation from 4 tables, two of which weren't even playing our game!

That's some of the stuff off the top of my head, although I will have a picture of myself in the Tuke of Wisdom as given to me by the great god Lombardi (yes, that Lombardi) up shortly. ;)

I knew that there was going to be a tribal bellydance troupe there; they posted on the LJ bellydancing community about their upcoming GenCon performance, and I was all jealous. One of my troupemates is a D&D player and sells chainmail bras and jewelry at the Renn Faire, so we were talking about how we should perform at sci-fi/fantasy conventions sometime. ;)

I am entirely unsurprised that Mindy was in the art show and selling stuff. She does amazing work.

Tres cool about making it to NASCRAG final found. And handy that you had an actual singer there (good planning, since something like that usually seems to be a NASCRAG thing)! But... no time travel? How can it be? ;)

Glad you had fun! :) I'm looking forward to pictures.

Indeed, I had a great time. But I have to agree that it was not as full of stories as previous cons. It was one of those fun but, in many ways, unremarkable cons.

We played a board game called "This Game Sucks" in which there are several gamers trapped in a terrible RPG. All of them are trying to either destroy the other players interest in the game so they drop out and make the game unplayable (well, more than it already is I guess) or damage the GM's ego to the point that he cries (no kidding) and ends the game. The stereotype gamers and some of the event cards are a little scary.

Another thing that may be of interest to Sarah: We did run into Nate a few times and he was one of the unfortunate souls who got wasted in the first encounter of the first round of the D&D Open. He was rooting for us through the Nascrag tourney even though he wasn't on the team. Thanks to his time with us, he felt like it was still his team. He is our official "#1 alternate" now. :)
